You know that part of the vehicle buying process where you’re walked into the finance manager’s office and you discuss loans, leases, and a bunch of other things you didn’t necessarily plan on discussing? Well that part of the business is called F&I (for Finance & Insurance) in industry-speak.
Dealer Owned Warranty Company (DOWC) is a provider and administrator of various F&I products, including vehicle service contracts (what you might call an “extended warranty”). Unlike many of their competitors, which offer third-party warranties, DOWC specializes in a type of offering where the dealership owns a separate warranty company – hence the name – to underwrite the contracts. The benefits are numerous and can lead to more liquidity and wealth-building power.
